Definition

- A Wildcard is an active subscriber or account within your delivery territory but is not assigned to a route.

- The subscriber will not show on a route until it is manually assigned to a route so a delivery provider can deliver it.

  - A wildcard is different from a kickout in that a wildcard has no route value.

  - A kickout is assigned to a route but cannot be plotted to a location on a map.

More Information

Question: What causes an account to be a Wildcard?

Answer: Address information is not valid or the street is not within your Work Area Design (WAD).

Explanation: Because accounts get their route information from the WAD , if a subscriber can't be plotted on a street or if street isn't located within your WAD, the account will be listed as a Wildcard.

Important: Because Wildcards are active accounts and are not assigned to a route, it's important to assign them daily so they can be delivered and avoid complaints.

Summary:  Either because of its address or its location on the map, a Wildcard account must be manually assigned to a route.  Having the address information, you may be able to assign the account to a route.

Wildcards are located:

- Draw Recap within Summary Reports:  The Draw Recap Summary Reports will provide you a list of the quantity of wildcards and quantity by product.  They are listed as WC plus the plant number.

Fixing Wildcards

The most important step is assigning the Wildcard to a route so delivery can be made.

Assign them to a route by using the Override functionality.

Here are the steps:

1.  Go to the Override section within Route Management.

2.  Select the correct WAD

3.  Click on Add Override

4.  Select the Wildcard Route

5.  Click on Search

This will bring up all the Wildcards in the plant.

6.  To get the Wildcard assigned to a route, click on the checkbox next to the address.

7.  Click on Add Override on the bottom of the screen.

8.  This will bring up the Override section allowing you to select the route that this address belongs to.

9.  Click on confirm.

The address will now be assigned to a route and no longer a Wildcard.

After assigning the wildcard to a route, it is a good idea to recreate the routebook for the route(s) that you assigned them to so they can be delivered.

Go to the Dispatching Section and recreate the routebooks for any route that you've assigned a Wildcard to.
